The Red Door, Hyphen Hub’s Home and Center of New York’s Rock n’ Roll Scene for Decades, Closes its


Hyphen Hub’s original home was in the legendary rock n’ roll music venue, The Red Door, on W. 24th Street in Manhattan. Giorgio Gomelsky—owner of the fabled space—was a rock music visionary who managed such bands as The Rolling Stones and The Yardbirds. From the 1970s to the 2010s, Giorgio nurtured and mentored countless musicians and artists (including Jean-Michel Basquiat) at The Red Door, a space once described as “one of the last centers of anarcho-cool in town”. Most fortunately for Hyphen H

ub, Giorgio welcomed us to bring our new art and technology performances to this amazing and historic space. Given Giorgio’s experience and interest in exploring new technologies in rock music, he felt we were a good fit for his enormous family of creative artists and musicians.

Sadly, neither The Red Door nor Giorgio are with us today. Our first 3 years in existence working at The Red Door played a significant role in creating and shaping Hyphen Hub’s identity and mission, which is to provide a platform for artists, musicians, and innovators who are crossing disciplines and experimenting in numerous ways, often with an underground, subculture style reminiscent of the environment Giorgio created at The Red Door.
