Juan Cortés 'The View from Nowhere' Salon with Barbara London

This exhibition explores the connection between art, science, and educational processes to visually translate our simple understanding of complex phenomenon in the universe through sound, video, and sculptural installations. Comprised of "translation machines", he interprets vast concepts like dark matter and black holes into intelligible art on a micro scale.

The artist will be in conversation with Asher Remy-Toledo, founder and director of Hyphen Hub and Barbara London, curator, writer and professor who founded the video exhibition and collection programs at the MOMA, where she worked between 1973 and 2013. Currently she is organizing the exhibition “Seeing Sound” which Independent Curators International (ICI) will begin touring this year and where Juan Cortés is included. Her book Video/Art: The First Fifty Years will launch at MOMA in the next few days.

Juan Cortés was born in Bogotá, Colombia in 1989. He is an interdisciplinary artists working at the intersection of art and science. He was one of the ten artists selected by CERN to participate in the prestigious Arts at CERN program in 2019. The CERN exhibition, ‘Broken Symmetries’, is currently touring Europe and going to Asia next month. He is a long time member of the Hyphen Hub community of artists and creators working at the intersection of art and emerging technologies.
