SALON:
Katarzyna Krakowiak
Date: May 4, 2013
Time: 7:00 pm
Location: The Red Door, 140 W 24th St, New York, NY 10011
Katarzyna Krakowiak is a Polish artist who interferes with architecture, questions its sense and logic, and changes its meaning through sound sculptures, electronic sculptures, and mechanic systems “parasitizing” on buildings.
In the Hyphen Hub salon, held on November 4th of 2013, Katarzyna revealed the inside story behind "The Great and Secret Show", her ambitious latest project which was premiered on November 8th at the Performa Biennial in New York at the then Post Office Station (which later became part of Penn Station). Hyphen Hub organized a tour led by the artists to the cavernous and about to be demolished interior for people from our Hyphen Hub Community members, where the artists took our group behind the scenes and explained the concept behind her work and gave a demo of her DIY ( do it yourself) instruments used to create the motion activated ghostly sounds. The artist also talked about her other works, including her piece, awarded at the Venice Architecture Biennale, and the presentation was followed by a Q&A with the artist.
The night was presented by Marcin Szczelina, who was the curator for the Polis Pavillion at 2015 Venice Architecture Bienniale.
